a great place to live - colfax!
- Senior and Special Services
With two retirement communities, numerous clubs and organizations, as well as great health care and other necessary services, Colfax is a great place to retire.
Hill Ray Plaza, a retirement community, and The Courtyard Assisted Living offer comfortable, stylish living with varied levels of care. Both facilities are close to medical care and senior services. Programs focused on seniors include Meals on Wheels, Coast transportation, senior meals, nutrition supplements and a food pantry. These programs are offered through the local Council on Aging. Paul’s Place offers assisted living for those with disabilities and Whitman Health and Rehab, serves as a skilled nursing facility.
Local senior organizations include Atheneaum, PEO, Knight’s of Columbus, and SHO (Seniors Helping Others). Many local businesses offer senior citizen discounts as well as special senior shopping days.
- Churches
The community of faith has always been a part of the development of Colfax. This influence began in 1872 with the formation of a community Sunday school. Today, there is an active Ministerial Association that hosts a community Thanksgiving service. Numerous denominations serve the community with youth and Sunday services.
- Work
Easy commutes mean Colfax residents may work in Colfax or travel to neighboring communities for employment. Countywide, the largest employer in the region is Washington State University. Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Pullman Hospital, Federal and County Government make up additional employers. In addition to the many county offices located in Colfax, Whitman Hospital and Medical Center, Whitman Medical Group, The McGregor’s Company and local retailers and service companies contribute to the opportunities close to home.
